Why not become a Parish Councillor?
• Are you concerned about your local area?
• Interested to become more active in your community?
• Do you want to represent the views of local people?
• Have you got time or expertise which could benefit your community?
Councillors are a voice for their community and make real change by getting involved with issues concerning the area, keeping it a great place to live and work. Old Stratford Parish Council currently meet on the second Tuesday of each month to represent the electors by raising and discussing issues of interest on which we are empowered to act.
We currently have two Councillor vacancies and on 1st May 2025 there will be elections to elect the new Parish Council and you could stand and join the Parish Council! You will be supported in your role and given training. OR if you know someone who cares about their local community, why not encourage them to stand for election?
To be a Parish Councillor you must:
• be at least 18 years old;
• be a UK or Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of a Member State of the European Union;
• live in the Parish; or in the past 12 months been owner or tenant in the Parish, work in the Parish or live within three miles of the Parish boundary.
You can obtain a nomination paper from the Elections Office at West Northants Council (WNC electoral services) and will need to find two people to nominate you. For more detail on the elections process please visit the Electoral Commission website.
If you have any questions about what being a Councillor involves, what the Parish Council does or the nomination process please contact the Clerk at clerk@oldstratfordparishcouncil.gov.uk
In the past Old Stratford Parish Council has coordinated support for residents during the pandemic, initiated and supported the Old Stratford in Bloom (OSIB) initiative, partnered with the community to organise the Queens Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, as well as liaising with West Northants Council about transport issues, housing concerns and more.
